Diaper Cake and Baby Sock Roses

In honor of my friend's daughter's first birthday this month, I thought I'd share the diaper cake I had made her before her little lady arrived.
My sister-in-law and I planned a brunch for my friend, and I knew I wanted to make a diaper cake.  I've always hated the look of diaper cakes where you can see the designs on the diapers.  So when I stumbled upon this design, I was sold!

You will need:

A large serving platter (I found a plastic one at a
         craft store)
Champagne (or sparkling cider, or large bottle baby lotion
to go in the center of the cake)
Size 1 diapers (amount depends on the size of the cake you
make and what you place in the center, but you will
         likely need a lot)
Rubberbands
White tissue paper
Wide white satin ribbon
Decorative ribbon
Tape
Decorations (I went for an elegant looking cake and made
Baby Sock Roses; you could go more whimsical
like the original poster and decorate with baby toys)

Directions:

Start rolling diapers and secure with rubberbands.  Place champagne (or whatever you decide to put in the center) on the center of your serving platter.  Place the rolled diapers around the bottle to make the first and largest layer of the cake.
Then use unrolled diapers around the rolled diapers to make the outside of the layer smooth.  Once the first layer is complete, take several sheets of the tissue paper and cut an "X" in the middle.  Slide the sheets over the bottle, tuck under the diapers, and secure with a large rubberband.
Continue the same process for the next two layers (or however many additional layers you are making).  Now it's time for the white ribbon.  Wrap a piece around the bottom of each layer and secure with tape.  Then, wrap a piece around the rest of each layer so that the sides are completely covered by ribbon (don't worry, the seam formed in the center of each layer will be covered by the decorative ribbon).
Now use the decorative ribbon and wrap a piece around the middle of each layer of the cake, making sure to cover the seams.  Secure each piece with tape.  Add your decorations, and the cake is done!
If you are interested in making the Baby Sock Roses like I did, here's how to make them:

You will need:

Solid colored baby socks (one for each rose you want to make)
Green floral tape
Green floral wire

Directions:

Start by rolling one sock on a diagonal until you achieve your desired look for your rose.  Insert floral wire into the end (to become the stem) and wrap floral tape around the bottom of the sock and top of the wire.  I used additional tape and shaped it into leaves.  Slide the wire stems under the desired layer of the diaper cake.  Easy as that!
You could also use these roses and make them into a bouquet.  Just bundle them together and wrap with tissue paper (like a bouquet of flowers), then secure with a pretty ribbon.
